Last weekend, Brett and I completed our Preparation for Birth Class at the Winnie Palmer Hospital, where we will be going to deliver Rylee.
I had no clue what to expect during the full-day class (from 9am – 4pm) but we learned so much.
I have a completely different view of what labor is like now… and it is far different than the scenes from “What to Expect When Your Expecting!” (Which was a great movie, by the way, that Brett and I really enjoyed watching together!)
We did see lots videos of personal stories of women giving birth, which was interesting to see what their experiences were like. And everyone’s experience was very different.
One thing that I learned that I think will be so important during delivery, is how much the father’s role plays in the delivery room. They really do have a HUGE job, making sure mom is comfortable, relaxed, and supportive during the whole process. It makes me feel so much better about going into labor and not scared at all, knowing that Brett will be there by my side to do anything necessary to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible.
We also got to tour the facility during the class. We were taken into a delivery room, and I was very impressed! It had such a cozy and welcoming feel to it, with a very roomy circular shape to it, neutral colors and art on the walls, dim lighting and the bathrooms decorated like a hotel’s. It was very comforting to see the room beforehand so I can visualize what it will be like during labor and delivery.
So much important information was discussed and I even got a back massage out of it!
Brett learned how to change a diaper, too!
He did such a great job!
After the class Brett and I even received a completion certificate to make it official!
Now that we have completed the class, I feel that Brett and I could not be more prepared and ready to have Rylee. I am looking forward to the experience and can’t wait to make this new memory with Brett that I know will bring us even closer than we already are!
