This past weekend the family and I celebrated Mother’s Day with my parents in South Florida.
It is so hard to believe that this time last year, I had just had Rylee and we celebrated my first Mother’s Day!
Although I was a mom then, I was only one for a few weeks so this year felt like the one to really celebrate being a mom for a full year!
It was great to celebrate with my parents and we had a lot on the agenda!
We drove in after work on Friday night so that we could all wake up early Saturday morning together and enjoy breakfast before heading to the beach.
We had a nice big breakfast to fill us up for the day, including Rylee’s two favorites eggs and oatmeal. After breakfast it was time to get everything packed and in the car for the ride to the beach.
My parents have a timeshare on the beach and even when it is not their week for vacation, the resort lets us go for the day so we get access to their pools and their private beach.
It is always our first choice for spending the day at the beach, especially since Rylee can’t go in the ocean, it is great to use the pools!
She is so close to walking and I think the kiddie pool gave her a little more guts to start walking on her own. We had fun walking her around the pool and back and froth from daddy to mommy.
She seemed to really enjoy being in the water!
After she exercised a little, we all spent some time together floating in the pool and Rylee loved sitting comfortably in her little floatie!
We even took her to see the ocean for the first time!
The ocean was so pretty and the water was so clear!
For dinner, my parents took us to an amazing local restaurant called Divine Bistro, where the owners are husband and wife. The husband is the chef and the wife manages the front of the house and you can really tell that they know what they are doing because it was so great!
They have a drink special every night – $6 for bottomless wine!
Then, for the early bird special, they offer a three course meal for $16.
Everything was so delicious!
My mom and I got the strawberry salad with pecans and blue cheese.
And my Dad and Brett got this amazing crab and corn chowder soup! It was so good! Apparently the chef’s specialty are his soups. The salad was great don’t get me wrong, but next time I am getting the soup…whatever it is!
For my entree I got a crab stuffed flounder. The light, lemony flavor of the fish and vegetables paired very nicely with the richness of the mashed potatoes and the crab stuffing to create a great balance.
And when it was time to decide on dessert, there were exactly four desserts being featured, so we decided to get one of each!
I went for the chocolate chip brownie, of course.
But I am all about sharing and variety, so we had a carousel of dessert tastings and decided to pass them to the right until we all got to try all four!
From left to right: Chocolate Chip Brownie, Carrot Cake, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Strawberry Shortcake.
They were all delicious! Surprisingly to me though, the Pineapple Upside Down Cake seemed to be everyone’s favorite! I have never really considered it to be one of my favorite desserts before and hardly ever order it, but it was so delicious!
It was a great end to the perfect day!
We were all stuffed and couldn’t wait to get home, put Rylee to bed and just hang out until bedtime.
And then it was Mother’s Day!
And you know what I got? Only the best gift ever!
Rylee saved her very first steps just for me!
While hanging out in the kitchen while Mom made Rylee her delicious oatmeal, Rylee actually stood up on her own and walked towards me! It was so great!
We had a brunch reservation to celebrate at a local golf club and Rylee was a little attention hog!
Her onsie does say “Fun like my mommy” on it!
I think she was testing out her new legs and wanted to walk around the whole place!
We had a wonderful family filled weekend and a great Mother’s Day celebration.
I hope everyone else had a wonderful Mother’s Day as well!
