If you think you have just stumbled upon the secret diet and fitness plan to lose the baby weight after having children, keep looking. I am sorry to tell you that this is not that kind of post. What I am here to tell you is that every mother is different and you will find a way to achieve your fitness goals after having children. You just have to make them first.
Whether it’s losing the baby weight, getting back into the gym or just trying to get healthy, every mom can find the secret to feeling great and looking fabulous after having children in themselves.
The secret isn’t a new fad diet, weight loss drink or fat burning body wrap. Plain and simple, it’s making the right choices. It’s skipping the double, bacon cheeseburger if you didn’t make it to the gym that day. It’s bringing a homemade and nutritious lunch to work instead of going out to that taco joint you love. And I am not saying that you need to sacrifice everything you love to feel and look great. If you just killed it at the gym and you want dessert after dinner, go for it. You deserve it. Because those are the moments that make you feel great, too.
And you know what? If you’re tired, ate great all week and need a day off at the gym, take it. Sometimes as a mother, you just need to take a well deserved break and indulge a little. Taking time to yourself after you have children is not against the law. In fact, it’s in those moments where you become reenergized, motivated and ready to take on your motherly duties. Yes, I am saying that you can be excited about changing a poopy diaper or reading 9 million pages of Dr. Suess to your kid as a bed time story if you are feeling good and positive about yourself. Take those moments to yourself to avoid getting worn out.
So I’m not here to tell you how many sit-ups you need to do in a day to get a six pack or how many cups of veggies to have with dinner to lose 10 pounds in a week. I am here to tell you that if you balance your days with healthy foods, going to the gym when you can and being the best mom you can be every day, you will look and feel amazing.
Take it from me, a working mom, wine-lover and someone who has recently discovered the guiltless pleasure of an hour to myself at the nail salon and the joy of a 30 minute gym sesh. I have never felt better and more proud of myself for the times that I can actually make it to the gym after a long day of work, even if it’s only once a week. Or taking time to myself to focus and recharge so that I can be the best mom I possibly can.
Set your goals, find balance in your daily routine, be patient, positive and the best you can be and you will get there.
